EUTOPIA Week 2022 in Ljubljana: Tiziana Lippiello is the new President

The Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice Tiziana Lippiello is the new President of EUTOPIA. In December 2022 she will succeed Eva Wiberg, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg, who has guided the alliance thus far. The new President will lead the alliance for the next two years.

EUTOPIA awarded 8 ERC Starting Grants

Prestigious ERC grants have been awarded to the University of Warwick (three grants), Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (two grants), and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Babeș-Bolyai University and the University of Gothenburg (one grant each). This excellent result attests to the value of the alliance and of university policies.

Climate sceptic tweets growing four times as fast as pro-climate

Climate scepticism is growing four times as fast as pro-climate content on Twitter, according to a new paper published today in Nature Climate Change by The Alan Turing Institute that features the collaboration of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

PInK, Ca’ Foscari’s portal dedicated to technology and knowledge transfer between University research and businesses, institutions and the local territory, has participated in the writing of the new European Code of Practice for the smart use of intellectual property.

Microalgae used in ‘zero-waste’ wineries

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice has developed an eco-friendly process that enables the full use of wine lees and of the sludge resulting from wastewater treatment. This circular economy process can be managed directly by wineries and reduces disposal costs.

University closed on 21 November and 8 and 9 December

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice will be closed on Monday 21 November (Madonna della Salute), and on Thursday 8 December and Friday 9 December 2022 . The Treviso Campus will close only on 8 and 9 December 2022.

Beyond Epica Deep Drilling Campaign Begins in Antarctica

The Little Dome C site in Antarctica has reopened for the second ice core drilling campaign of the international research project coordinated by the Institute of Polar Sciences of the CNR (National Research Council of Italy). The team includes 15 people and aims to start deep drilling to reach depths of a few hundred metres, enabling the reconstruction of the world’s climate history.

‘Key’ that inhibits molecules involved in cancer spread uncovered

A research team at Ca’ Foscari has selected a new type of miniaturised antibodies that can detect and inhibit the activity of the urokinase human enzyme (uPA), reducing the risk of side effects. The discovery has been patented for use in the pharmaceutical industry.

University closed on 31 October and 1 November 2022

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice will be closed on Monday 31 October and on Tuesday 1 November (All Saints’ Day). University libraries will remain closed, except for BAUM (the Arts and Humanities Library) which will be open from 9:00 to 21:00 on both days. Regular opening times will resume from Wednesday 2 November.
